Minnesota Sen. Nicole Mitchell arrested and charged for burglary after being found in home

 According to the police, Democrat Nicole Mitchell was arrested in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, upon discovery inside a residential property. She was subsequently taken into custody and booked at Becker County jail on a charge of burglary.



Police report that a Minnesota state senator, Democratic Sen. Nicole Mitchell, has been arrested and formally charged with first-degree burglary. Authorities apprehended Mitchell after discovering her inside a residence in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, a location approximately four hours northwest of Woodbury, the district she represents. According to Detroit Lakes Police Chief Steve Todd, Mitchell, aged 49, was booked into Becker County Jail on Monday and is currently detained on the burglary charge.

Records indicate that Mitchell's father resided on the same block.

At approximately 4:45 a.m. on Monday, authorities received a report from a homeowner regarding a burglary, as stated by Todd. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman inside the residence, later identified as Mitchell. According to the Star Tribune, county property tax records from 2022 indicate that Mitchell's stepmother and late father resided on the same block where the alleged burglary took place.


Senator Nicole Mitchell is currently in her inaugural term of office.

Mitchell was elected in 2022 and remains in her first term. Before her political career, she worked as a TV meteorologist and served as an Air National Guard commander. CBS News reported that the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Caucus refrained from commenting but acknowledged awareness of the situation.

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson conveyed to CBS News, "The public expects legislators to adhere to a high standard of conduct. As details emerge, we anticipate that the consequences will align with the actions, both within the legal system and in her capacity within the Legislature."
